A Danville insurance agency owner, whose office was raided by police this week, says he has done nothing wrong. Police executed a search warrant on Monday at Perry Jaynes Insurance and Financial Services on East Liberty Lane.
Jaynes said today that he was surprised when officers removed file cabinets, computers and even his cell phone from the building. Police also took some furniture and other valuables.
Jaynes told VermilionCountyFirst.com News that his business remains open. And he says his attorney is checking into the matter.
‘’It’s frustrating – but it is what it is,’’ added Jaynes. ‘’They’re not going to find anything in those computers,’’ he says. And Jaynes maintains he has done nothing wrong.
Customers who have been attempting to call the agency have been getting a recording stating the phone is not working. But Jaynes says that is because a construction crew accidentally cut through a cable in front of his building. And for customers concerned about their policies, Jaynes told our News Department today that ‘’coverage is still in effect, and all investments are safe.’’
‘’The problem,’’ adds Jaynes, ‘’is that if people need to make changes to their auto or other insurance, I need to pull the old file.’’ And he says those old files are ones that were confiscated by the police.
Jaynes has been in the insurance business for 37 years. Although he expects police will be returning his files without finding anything wrong, Jaynes says he worries how the incident could impact his business. ‘’In a town like Danville, people start talking whether something’s true or not.’’
Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason had no comment when asked about the case. Thomason would only say that police are conducting an investigation, adding he is not saying who is being investigated or the location.
