An investigation that has been on-going for months resulted in the confiscation of a pound of crystal methamphetamine in Vermilion County Thursday night. Illinois State Police Master Sergeant Lisa Mitchell of the Vermilion County Metropolitan Enforcement Group says the drugs were tossed from a vehicle as it was being pursued by police near Georgetown. She says police recovered the item that was thrown from the vehicle.
Mitchell added the chase ended on 14th Street in Georgetown where officers arrested the driver – 35-year-old Sabrina Krage and a passenger, 40-year-old Cory Grant, both of Georgetown.
Krage was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding, possession of methamphetamine and possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Grant was being held on preliminary charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of meth with intent to deliver.
And since a three-year-old child was in the vehicle when stopped, Mitchell said Krage also faces a preliminary charge of endangering the life of a child. Mitchell added officers were unaware there was a child in the vehicle while they were pursuing it.
The VMEG Director adds that when dealers buy that much crystal methamphetamine in bulk they usually pay twenty-to-twenty-five thousand dollars for it. When it is broken down for individual sales Mitchell says a dealer would be able to make twice that amount. She says the amount of crystal methamphetamine that was confiscated in this case has a street value estimated over $57-thousand dollars.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police and Indiana State Police assisted the VMEG agents in making the arrests. VMEG special agents have been working on the case several months with Indiana State Police. VMEG is Vermilion County’s undercover narcotics squad.
