The Vermilion Regional Air Expo which is coming September 30th and October 1st continues to attract more entries. Vermilion Regional Airport Manager Mike Potter says another military entry is the latest to join the show. ‘’The Air Force called us and wanted to bring their new Special-Ops trailer in from Dayton. And it’s a large semi-trailer and in the back of that it’s set up to look like a C-130. They also set up an obstacle course and then they have virtual reality glasses that you can play some games with up in front of the trailer,’’ said Potter. ‘’We also have inflatable (games) for the kids. And they’re all kind of aviation-themed inflatables – like a space shuttle, flying saucer, etcetera.’’
Potter says the public will have a chance to get an up-close look at some unique aircraft. ‘’We’re going to have a B-25 Mitchell bomber – also a C-54, which is a four-engine aircraft which was used in the Berlin airlift. It is kind of a flying museum. So you’ll be able to walk up inside the aircraft and look around and see some of the things those guys went through delivering food, rice, anything – everything you can think of,’’ said Potter. And those are just a couple of the planes that will be at the Vermilion Regional Air Expo which is coming to the Vermilion Regional Airport at Danville.
Workers were busy working on some new improvements to roads and parking lots at the airport on Friday. Potter says the work will be done before the Vermilion Regional Air Expo opens on September 30th.
Potter is encouraging those who plan to attend to buy their tickets early online at www.vermilionregionalairexpo.com.
