O.S.F. HealthCare has announced the signing of a definitive agreement to take ownership of Presence Health facilities in Danville and Urbana. The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis have also announced the new names for the two medical centers.
Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville will be renamed OSF HealthCare Sacred Heart Medical Center. And Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana will be renamed OSF HealthCare Heart of Mary Medical Center. But the name changes will not occur until the ownership transition is completed in February of 2018.
The names have been chosen to honor the legacy of the respective religious congregations responsible for the original founding of the hospitals: Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary and Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart.
As The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis becomes the sponsors of the two ministries in Urbana and Danville, it ensures the continuation of a century-long commitment of Catholic health care in Urbana and a 135-year Catholic Health Care tradition in Danville.
