Danville District 118 School Board members have approved an upgrade of the district’s crisis plan – including plans to provide staff quick valuable information. The information will be provided through the use of a new app called CrisisGo.
Danville Police Commander Chris Yates says first responders could possibly also have access to information using the app – such as being able to call up a map of Danville High School. But he added that would first have to be approved by the Director of the Department of Public Safety. Commander Yates also noted that Danville Police do not make the district’s crisis plan – but does look at it and makes suggestions.
Yates backs the plan to use the new CrisisGo app to communicate information to teachers and other staff in the event of an incident. He noted it is sometimes difficult to hear what may be happening in a building. He cited one example where he decided to run a test. The Commander says he walked down a hallway at a local school and slammed down a book. He says a maintenance employee who was running a vacuum cleaner nearby came out and asked if everything was alright. But he says those in a nearby classroom no one heard it. And Yates noted that is probably because of the way schools are constructed to reduce noise.
Also during Wednesday evenings meeting Danville School Board members voted to suspend Food Service Director Greg Lazzell, and scheduled a special board meeting next Wednesday to possibly terminate his employment. But no information was released during the meeting explaining why the action was taken. The special meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, September 20th at 5:30 p.m.
