The Habitat for Humanity ReStore has closed on a building at 422 North Vermilion Street in Danville and will be moving to that site from its present location downtown. A clean-up and then major renovations of the new location will begin during October. A grand opening at the new site is planned for spring and summer of next year.
Habitat says it needs funds for the renovation – approximately the same amount it would take to rehab a house. Volunteers are also needed to help with the renovation. And Habitat is searching for other non-profits that might be interested in leasing space in their new building.
Habitat for Humanity has been fighting poverty housing in Danville since 1986. And Habitat for Humanity says the need is greater today than ever before. ”We wage this fight against poverty housing one family at a time,” said a news release. ”We don’t just give a handout but a hand up by giving deserving families a no-interest loan on a decent home.” The ReStore has been successful in raising funds in Danville since 2010, but Habitat says the need is still growing.plans to move the ReStore to a different retail location on one level, to allow them to expand.
The release says a successful move should allow Habitat to build approximately one extra home each year for the next ten years.
