As Danville faces the loss of its OfficeMax store some other small businesses are continuing to open in the community. Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says the new Red Door Cakes is an example of businesses that are making for a strong downtown area. ‘’What I think is happening in the downtown area that is so special is that we’re getting a lot of unique and antique stores in the downtown area. You know when you look at the different businesses that have already come into the downtown area which are unique or antique,’’ said the Mayor, ‘’this new business – The Red Door Cakes – is obviously a unique niche for the downtown area. And that’s where downtowns strive and survive,’’ added Eisenhauer.
Red Door Cakes at the corner of North and Hazel Streets downtown is scheduled to open on Saturday, October 7th. It is located directly across from the Richard Brazda Bus Terminal and will feature not only cakes but also soup, sandwiches and specialty teas.
DDI Director Jordan Cundiff says other new businesses have also either opened recently or are expected to open soon in downtown Danville. He notes Burt Co. has opened a wedding photography business in the back of the Dale Building. A barbershop is coming soon to the former Mags Men’s Ware site, and a new retail business is prepping the former Bratland’s Pharmacy spot.
Cundiff adds the next big event downtown is the Night of Lights Holiday Parade on November 11th.
