Illinois State Police are urging motorists to be alert as they travel the stretch of Interstate 74 between Danville and Champaign-Urbana. It is because of some construction work that will cause temporary lane closures over the next two weeks.
Traffic has been known to back up for several miles approaching the lane closures. State Police note they have handled multiple crashes along that stretch of Interstate 74 in the past. One was a fatal crash near Fithian on Monday that claimed the life of a Norfolk, Virginia woman.
On social media some truck drivers noted the past tragedies that have occurred along that stretch of highway wondering what is causing them. One post called it ‘’the Bermuda Triangle of Central Illinois.’’
Wet weather in our forecast might delay some of the work which is scheduled in that area.
