Work on some area road projects is advancing. That’s the word delivered to members of the Danville Area Transportation Group’s Policy Committee.
Danville Urban Services Director David Schnelle says work on the Danville High School shared use path project is nearly complete. Landscaping will begin soon. New fencing in front of the high school and Ned Whitesell football field is expected to be up within a few weeks.
The project has involved construction of a shared-use path (which can be used by pedestrians and bicyclists), new traffic signals and other lighting – including ones at a pedestrian crosswalk near the football field – and installation of a new median area between the east and westbound lanes of traffic on Fairchild Street in the area of DHS.
The committee also learned improvements along South Street between Main Street and the railroad tracks just east of the Public Safety Building should be done this year. That project includes installation of a new drop-off area in front of the David S. Palmer Arena, new lighting and installation of a median area with street lights and plants similar to the new one at Danville High School.
And the committee was also told that improvements along West Newell Road should be done soon. Also the City of Danville is seeking environmental clearances as part of phase I plans to move the Denmark Road pump station. Phase II will involve moving the pump station and some improvements to Denmark Road in the area of the Dallas Bowman Bridge over Lake Vermilion.
