Emergency services around Vermilion County were kept busy over the weekend handling several accidents involving injuries. In one of them shortly after 8:00 p.m. Saturday a pedestrian was struck by a hit and run vehicle along East Main Street in Danville. Police reports say 36-year-old James Hamm Jr. of the 900 block of North Griffin Street was attempting to cross at the Main and Kentucky intersection when he was hit. After being struck, Hamm rolled onto the hood of the van that hit him and then rolled off – but the vehicle fled down Kentucky Street.
In another accident along Illinois route one at Newell Road shortly after 11 o’clock Saturday morning three people were hurt. The drivers were identified as Crystal Powell, 65, of Henning and 76-year-old Frances Mooleghen of South Cedarwood Street in Danville. Both drivers and a passenger in Mooleghen’s vehicle were transported to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment. The Mooleghen vehicle was knocked onto its side.
Still another injury accident involved a single-vehicle mishap along Illinois route 9, west of Hoopeston. A truck being operated by 30-year-old Jason Long of Rankin left the highway and rolled in a bean field Saturday afternoon. Long was transported to Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center for treatment.
And a head-on crash along Liberty Lane in Danville, east of the Stonegate housing development, sent two people to the hospital Saturday evening. Those hurt were the drivers….38-year-old Tamika Gibbs of the 1200 block of Garden Drive in Danville and 38-year-old Shanetria Finch of the 900 block of Giddings in Danville. Police reports indicate the Gibbs vehicle crossed into the path of the Finch unit.
