Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police say one of the drivers involved in a head-on fatal collision along Bowman Avenue Friday evening has been charged. Sixty-year-old David Winkler Jr. of rural Danville has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence.
Deputies say Winkler’s pickup truck was traveling northbound on Bowman shortly before 6:00 p.m. Friday when it crossed the center line and hit a southbound sport utility vehicle. The 52-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden says she is Heather K. Roberts from Danville.
The crash occurred along Bowman Avenue between Winter and Liberty Lane. The accident closed that segment of Bowman for several hours. A Lifeline Helicopter landed nearby but was not used according to sheriff’s police because Roberts died on the scene.
Deputies say Winkler refused treatment.
