Congressman John Shimkus says he is excited that he will finally be getting some new neighbors. His office is the only one left in the former Danville Post Office and Federal Court building in the 200 block of North Vermilion Street. But Friday afternoon a ribbon-cutting ceremony cleared the way for offices to move there from the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex.
Congressman Shimkus said it was an emotional day for him after he worked to help secure the building from the General Services Administration…
Vermilion County Board Chairman Mike Marron noted it was a bittersweet day following the funeral of former long-time County Board member Bob Fox earlier in the day. Marron also noted the efforts of the late Lou Mervis in helping secure the building.
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer is excited that the county will be moving into the building..
Marron says the move will accomplish two goals – getting county offices moved that were attached to the vacant Bresee Tower, and relocate the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency. All of those offices are expected to be moved into their new home by late next year.
