Saturday’s electronics collection event, sponsored by the Vermilion County Health Department, is being called a huge success.
More than 600 vehicles snaked their way through the Danville Area Community College campus to drop off unwanted televisions, monitors and other electronic items. The event was jointly sponsored by Danville Area Community College, the Vermilion County Health Department and Keep Vermilion County Beautiful.
‘’We are happy to work with residents to properly recycle these types of electronics in an environmentally safe and responsible manner,’’ said Public Health Administrator Douglas Toole. ‘’By doing so, many materials will be reused in the manufacturing of new products and potentially harmful chemicals will be diverted from landfills.’’
This year’s turnout is being described as larger than last year. Motorists patiently waited in line (in some cases around 90 minutes) in order to drop-off their items. Those items ranged from televisions and monitors to printers, DVD players, gaming consoles and others. Many said the best thing about it was that the collection was offered to Vermilion County residents free of charge.
Bryant Industries was on hand collecting the items so they can be recycled.
