There will be no strike by school bus drivers and monitors in Danville School District 118. A new tentative contract agreement was reached Monday between First Student Bus Company and the employees who are represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 26. And Monday evening that 3-year tentative accord was ratified by the workers by an 84 to 28 margin.
Neither side would release specific details on the new pact however the workers are receiving an increase in pay.
Earlier this month notices were sent home to parents and guardians by Danville School District 118 to alert the parents that a strike might occur. The notice said the drivers and monitors had voted to strike on Friday, November 3rd, if no agreement was reached by then.
District 118 Superintendent Alicia Geddis said in the letter that it appeared the schools may be forced to close if a strike occurred. But now that potential strike has been averted and classes will continue on schedule. Dr. Geddis noted in the letter that the negotiations were outside of the school district’s control. The district has a contract with First Student Bus Company which provides the service.
First Student also provides bus service to the Westville Unit 2 District. But that service is on a separate contract, and Westville school officials say their bus service is continuing to run smoothly.
