Westville Police say they are continuing their investigation into a car-pedestrian accident Tuesday evening which left two juveniles injured – one of them critically. The accident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Illinois route one (North State Street) and East Williams Street in Westville.
Police corrected their earlier report Wednesday which had said the mishap involved a 9-year-old and a 3-year-old. Police Chief David Booe says those hurt were a 7-year-old male, who was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana with serious injuries…and a 12-year-old girl, who was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville for evaluation. Names of those hurt were not released. Police said the 7-year-old was listed in critical but stable condition Wednesday. The 12-year-old girl was not seriously hurt.
Chief Booe says the preliminary indications are that the juveniles were attempting to cross route one, near the intersection of East Williams Street when they were hit by a south bound car. It was being operated by a 22-year-old woman. No citations or arrests have been made, but Chief Booe adds the investigation is ongoing.
Police say the juveniles live near where the accident occurred, and were apparently headed to a Halloween trunk-or-treat event that was taking place at Zamberletti Park.
As officers were investigating that incident a second crash occurred about a block away in the 100 block of West Short Street in Westville. Police say an SUV was struck in the driver’s side by a pickup truck when the truck exited an alley. Five people were transported from the SUV to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for evaluation and treatment, including the adult female driver and four juveniles ranging in age from 9 to 17. Those who were transported to the hospital from that crash are all residents of Georgetown. The driver of the pickup was cited for failure to yield the right of way.
