Christmas is still over a month away, but area residents will start hearing the familiar sound of Salvation Army bell-ringers beginning Friday (November 10th). The red kettles will be hitting the streets to raise funds to help individuals and families who are in need of Salvation Army services.
Most of the kettles are manned by volunteers, and if you or your organization would like to help…simply contact the Salvation Army headquarters in Danville.
Lt. John Woodard of the Salvation Army says the goal in the kettle campaign this year is $100-thousand dollars. The money is used for operations and resources throughout the year. Woodard says more volunteer bell-ringers are needed to man the kettles through Christmas Eve.
Meanwhile, the Danville Salvation Army has also started the sign-up process for Christmas food baskets. The registration period will continue through December 1st, 2017. Those needing assistance can stop by the Danville Salvation Army Headquarters at 855 East Fairchild Street during the follow times:
- Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 until 3:30 p.m.
- Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:00 until 11:30 a.m.
No appointment is necessary. Volunteers will take your application. Lt. Woodard says the local Salvation Army expects to provide about 500 food baskets this year with the help of families who ‘adopt’ others in need. The Salvation Army also teams with the Marine Corp League during the holiday period for the Toys for Tots Program.
