Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says a planned vote Tuesday evening on a proposal to pay for rising pension costs is being delayed. He says the delay is being caused by the fact that city council members were just presented a new option for addressing pension costs on Thursday. The Mayor says he did not want aldermen to have to vote on the issue without properly vetting the newest option. So the council will vote on the pension package the same night as the Tax Levy and Budget on December 5th.
The new proposal includes a mixture of increasing property taxes and the public safety pension fee, but also including a new tax on electricity and natural gas.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting, Danville City Council members are expected to vote on rezoning the former Number 4 Fire Station on East Main Street to allow Pro Ambulance to lease the building from the city. The council is also expected to vote on seeking $2-million dollars in state grant money to help with the construction of a new pedestrian and bicycle shared-use path from the area of Logan Avenue and Winter to Old Ottawa Road. It would run adjacent to the existing Dallas Bowman bridge over Lake Vermilion. Aldermen are also expected to vote on whether to back a rail-banking of some CSX property to allow for an extension of the proposed Kickapoo Rail Trail from Kickapoo State Park to Danville’s west side just off U.S. route 150.
The City Council meets at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert E. Jones Municipal Building.
