New unemployment numbers are out and they show the jobless rate in Vermilion County was unchanged last month, remaining at 5.9 percent of the workforce. It is down from a year ago when Vermilion County had a 7.1 percent unemployment rate.
The report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows that unemployment rose a little in Champaign County, going from 3.8 to 4.1 percent.
Danville’s unemployment rate for October 2017 was 7.1 percent, down from 7.5 percent in October of last year. In October of this year there were an estimated 2,000 people in the Vermilion County labor force who were unemployed.
Non-farm employment in Vermilion County decreased by 300 from a year ago levels. The Government sector lost 200 jobs in Vermilion County since October of 2016. The county also lost 100 jobs in manufacturing, 100 more in the Financial Activities sector, and another 100 job loss occurred in the Health-Education Services category. But the report shows Vermilion County gained 100 jobs in the Wholesale Trade area and another 100 jobs in the Transportation-Warehousing and Utilities category.
