Members of a local family are counting their blessings after escaping their burning home early today (Tuesday). Lisa Morris-Boyd says the home at 1004 Shasta Street has been in her family for the past 45 years. Her brother, Kenneth Morris, was living at the house when the fire broke out at around 3:00 a.m. Kenneth’s brother, nephew, niece and five children were also there according to Morris-Boyd. And she noted Kenneth uses a wheelchair and had to be helped out. She is grateful that all were able to escape without anyone being hurt.
‘’Thank God for that,’’ said Morris-Boyd. But she noted the family lost all of their belongings, adding they had no insurance.
Danville Firefighters found the Morris residence engulfed in flames when they arrived. And the flames had spread to a neighbor’s house and four vehicles. Firefighters had just left the scene of another big fire that heavily damaged a two-story home at 106 Nicklas Street. Flames there shot some 30 feet into the air at times, but firefighters knocked out the fire while also protecting two other homes located close to the one that burned.
The cause of both fires remains under investigation.
