The City of Danville has finalized new eligibility lists for candidates wishing to become police officers or firefighters. There are 30 police candidates and 11 who qualified to be placed on the new firefighter eligibility list, according to Danville Human Resources Administrator Bill Westphal. Both lists are effective as of today.
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said earlier that the city intends to proceed with hiring more police officers even though its request for a federal COPS (Community Oriented Policing) grant was denied. But the Mayor said the city would not be able to fill the six vacancies currently on the police force all at once because of the limited slots available at the Police Training Institute. He also noted the city only has so many police field training officers available.
Westphal says each of the candidates completed a physical agility and written exam before they went through an oral interview process. There are 64 positions on the police force.
The next meeting of the Danville Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is January 2nd.
