The Danville Salvation Army is conducting a ‘Battle of the Badges’ to help meet this year’s goal in its Christmas Kettle Campaign.
Some off-duty Danville Police officers will be manning the Salvation Army kettles outside the local Wal-Mart store today (Saturday, December 9th, 2017). And some off-duty Danville Firefighters will man the kettles at that same location next Saturday, December 16th.
Lt. John Woodard of the local Salvation Army says it will be fun to see which group is able to raise the most money. He says the police officers and firefighters planned to man the kettles from around 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. both days.
The goal in this year’s Salvation Army Kettle Campaign is $100-thousand dollars. Lt. Woodard says donations this year have been running a little behind, so he hopes more people will show their support over the next couple of weeks. The kettles will be out at various locations until Christmas Eve. The money goes to support local Salvation Army programs throughout the year.
