Counselors will be on hand at Danville and Champaign Central High Schools early this week to help any students or staff who may have been traumatized by a Friday night shooting. Three females were shot in Champaign following the basketball game that took place between the two schools. One of them is a 15-year-old Danville High School student. The others are a 17-year-old female from Champaign and an 18-year-old Parkland College student. None suffered life-threatening injuries according to Champaign Police.
Police are asking for help from the public as they continue their investigation into the shootings which occurred just west of Champaign Central High School. Police say if anyone has cell phone video or photos which might help in that investigation they are asking that you notify them. Call the Champaign Police Investigations Division at 217-351-4545. Police are still seeking the shooter or shooters involved in the incident near Central High School. It has not been determined whether the shootings are related to another shooting which occurred about 10 minutes earlier in the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive. In that incident Champaign Police say a 25-year-old man was sitting in his vehicle when he was shot. He suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound according to police. No names have been released in either shooting.
