The Danville District 118 School Board adopted its new tax levy last evening, and the tax rate is down a little. Business Director Heather Smith says the levy totals $18.8 million dollars. She says the tax rate is dropping from $5.70 per $100 of equalized assessed value to $5.46.
The rate is less, said Smith, ‘’and the rest just depends on the new EAV (equalized assessed value) which is not up to us. Because if the new EAV increases,’’ added Smith, ‘’like, for example, if my house value goes up – my rate may go down but the amount I owe may go up.’’
Also during their meeting last night the board received a ‘thank-you’ from former Superintendent David Fields for naming the new Administrative Service Center after him. ‘’I truly appreciate it,’’ said Fields who served the Danville District forty-one years. He noted that it was in the building where last night’s meeting was being held that as an 8th grader in 1949 he stood on a stage in that same room. It was Jackson Elementary School at the time. ‘’It’s not often a building is named after you and you’re able to see it,’’ quipped the former Superintendent who went on to serve on the Illinois State Board of Education.
