Efforts to improve Westville’s Zamberletti Park are advancing with the help of people who have been buying some raffle tickets or donating cash. Jeff Slavik, chairman of the Zamberletti Park Improvement Commission, says efforts continue to reach a $45,000 goal to improve the park’s restrooms.
The Commission decided earlier to launch a gun raffle where only 1,000 tickets would be sold for $25 apiece. Those who purchase the tickets have their choice of either a gun or $300 in cash. There will be a winner a day during February, with the winning numbers determined by the Illinois State Lottery’s Mid-Day Pick 3 numbers. All state gun laws apply.
Slavik says some tickets are still available for purchase at Westville City Hall, but time is running out to buy them.
The Commission was formed last year by the Westville Village Council. It has been working ever since attempting to raise money to improve the park. Slavik says the restroom improvements are the first goal. Then the Commission hopes to help spearhead other improvements. One of the items discussed earlier involves possibly bringing a new entertainment stage back to the park by 2020.
Zamberletti Park is heavily used, especially during the baseball and football seasons. It is also the location where Westville hosts a large Labor Day celebration every year.
