Student representatives from almost all Vermilion County High Schools gathered at Danville Area Community College Monday to brainstorm ideas to make driving safer. One suggestion during the roundtable discussions was to place breathalyzer machines inside bars. Carolyn Kirk, a Danville District 118 hearing officer, thinks people would use them…
One student suggested police squad cars be stationed at problem areas along roads, and County Board Chairman Mike Marron said that’s a good idea, but…
Another suggested upgrading technology in vehicles so that if a car ‘’smells’’ alcohol levels that seem too high…it would not start.
Texting while driving and talking on cell phones also took the spotlight during the Vermilion County Youth Leadership Conference hosted by the Danville High School Future Problem Solvers. And one of the ideas that will be implemented is using social media to send daily safe driving tips to students. State Senator Scott Bennett and Senator Chad Hays, and Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer co-sponsored the session and led some of the discussion on safe driving.
