A Westville Subway restaurant remained closed Friday morning after a vehicle crashed into the building Thursday afternoon (January 25th, 2018). But construction workers were on the scene repairing the damage, and the owner of the business said he hoped to re-open by Saturday.
Westville Police Chief David Booe says a 73-year-old man faces multiple charges in connection with the damage…including driving under the influence of alcohol. Booe says police were told the man hit the building not once – but three times with his vehicle. A manager at the restaurant and a neighbor ran to the vehicle and got it stopped – preventing possible additional damage according to Subway owner.
The damage was towards the rear of the building where restrooms are located. Chief Booe says fortunately no one was in that area at the time and there were no injuries.
The Vermilion County Health Department was notified and the business was going to have to undergo an inspection before it could re-open. But it was expected to re-open within a day or so.
