Tilton Police say an employee at a Verizon Wireless Store was bound and the business robbed Sunday. Police released more information Monday about what happened during the robbery. Tilton Police Chief David Cornett told VermilionCountyFirst.com News the male employee was the only worker present when three black males entered the business at midday Sunday. All 3 were dressed in black clothing and were wearing hooded masks.
Chief Cornett says the employee was forced to open a safe and turn over cash from the business. The robbers then tied-up the employee and fled in his vehicle after the victim was forced to turn over his keys.
It was only about twenty minutes later that the vehicle was found abandoned on a parking lot at 1770 Georgetown Road. The location is only a few blocks from where the robbery occurred.
Chief Cornett adds police have witness accounts indicating that after they pulled into the old Clark Gas Station parking lot, the robbers got into another vehicle and fled. Police searched the area but were unable to locate them.
Vermilion County Sheriff’s Police, Tilton and Westville Police, along with a K-9 unit from the Danville Police Department were all involved in the search. Chief Cornett says the Verizon employee who was left tied in the business was not harmed.
