Thomason adds that in addition to switching from analog to digital, calls are also encrypted. So he says it is his understanding that people attempting to listen to scanners will be unable to hear any calls.
On Facebook, some citizens expressed disappointment about the switch saying they like to keep up with what is going on. One said the scanner groups ‘’were a great neighborhood watch.’’
