Three people were hurt Monday in a collision involving a fire truck and an SUV along Illinois route one in Tilton. The tanker fire truck was headed to a large fire in Westville’s downtown area when the crash occurred at Illinois route one and Ross Lane.
Although lettering on the truck said it was from the Catlin Fire Department it was later learned that its two occupants were from the Kickapoo Fire Protection District. Kickapoo was in the process of purchasing the truck from the Catlin department.
The impact knocked the tanker truck upside down as both units involved suffered heavy damage. VermilionCountyFirst.com News was told one of the Kickapoo Firefighters was released following treatment. The other was admitted to a hospital for observation. The person driving the SUV was also taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.
One of the Kickapoo Firefighters was pinned in the wreckage and had to be extricated by other firefighters. Several of the emergency units that rushed to the scene of the crash had been on the scene of the fire in Westville.
An investigation into the crash is continuing.
