Formal charges may be filed Thursday against a 19-year-old Danville man in connection with an incident early Wednesday. The teen was described as ‘’a person of interest’’ by police in connection with the discovery of a man’s body after firefighters responded to a call in the 3600 block of Bayview Drive.
‘’Fire personnel found active fire in the home and were able to quickly extinguish the flames,’’ said Public Service Director Larry Thomason. He says firefighters were called around 9:20 a.m. after a neighbor spotted smoke coming from the residence.
Director Thomason adds the fire damage was confined to ‘’basically a single room.’’ He says the body of a man was found on the lower level of the home. The names of the victim and the person being held have not been released yet.
Thomason says it was about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday that the suspect was taken into custody ‘’elsewhere in Danville many blocks away from the fire scene.’’
Danville Police and Fire Investigators are being assisted in the case by officers from the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit. Police and fire personnel remained on the scene for hours Wednesday. Meanwhile Director Thomason said police were continuing to conduct interviews in the case.
The area where the body was found is an upscale neighborhood on Danville’s north side where a number of large modern residences are located.
