Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer says preliminary damage assessments have been completed from last week’s flooding. And the mayor says the city will make every effort to pursue some type of federal assistance for citizens who suffered heavy flood damage in the Morin’s addition, located along West Williams Street.
In a letter sent to each residence in that area, Mayor Eisenhauer noted that federal assistance is NOT guaranteed. The letter notes that many of those same residents were affected by a storm in 2015 (although not to this level of damage)…but the city’s request for federal assistance then was denied.
Today and Friday City of Danville Public Works crews will be in the Morin’s Addition collecting all materials which have been placed at curbside. Mayor Eisenhauer notes those items do not have to be in a city toter or any special container.
The American Red Cross is opening a shelter at 4:00 p.m. today (Tuesday, February 27th) for flood victims at the Battle Focus Ministry Church in Vermilion Heights at 501 Cunningham Avenue. Anyone needing a safe place to stay is encouraged to go to the Red Cross Shelter.
