Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup has released the identity of a man who died Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital after being shot. He says the victim is 26-year-old Michael White of Chicago.
Police released a statement Wednesday afternoon (March 7, 2018) regarding the shooting which they described as a homicide.
Champaign Police say officers responded to the 1300 block of Sunset Drive shortly before 12:30 p.m. When they arrived they found the victim, who was immediately transported to the hospital. But the young victim died shortly after arriving at Carle Foundation Hospital’s Emergency Department. Police say White was apparently walking along Sunset Drive when he was shot.
Champaign Police Detectives are requesting to speak with anyone who may have been in the nearby area at the time of the report, and will arrange to speak privately with anyone who has information regarding the shooting.
