The Illinois law enforcement community is sending out the message that when a person makes a threat to harm students or faculty at a school, it’s no laughing matter. The Illinois State’s Attorneys Association, Illinois Sheriff’s Association and Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police say all such threats are taken very seriously. They say investigating such threats diverts precious resources.
The law enforcement community of Illinois said in a statement Wednesday that it stands united in making schools safe.
Ironically the statement was released on the same day that Danville Police were conducting one of their ‘Critical Incident Response’ drills at Danville High School. Public Safety Director Larry Thomason says Danville Police have been conducting such drills for nine years now. And Thomason applauded the school district and Danville High School administration for being proactive in protecting students and staff.
During the intruder safety drills no one may leave or enter Danville High School until the drill is completed. And once they are finished conducting the drills this week, Director Thomason says the drills will be critiqued to determine whether any changes need to be made regarding the response.
