New unemployment numbers are out and they show the jobless rate fell in Danville during January but remained unchanged in Vermilion County. The January figures are the latest ones available from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Danville’s January jobless rate was 6.5 percent….down from December’s 7.2 percent figure. The report released Thursday showed Vermilion County’s January jobless rate was unchanged at 6.0 percent.
In Champaign County the jobless rate rose slightly, climbing from 3.9 to 4.1 percent during January.
Vermilion County saw job gains in the Mining and Construction and Professional and Business Services sectors. They each gained 100 jobs over the year. The report says that since January of 2017 Vermilion County has lost 200 Government jobs and another 100 jobs in the Transportation, Warehousing, and Utilities sector. The county also lost 100 jobs in each of several other categories – including Retail Trade, Information, Financial Activities, Utilities, and Other Services.
