A new report shows Vermilion County’s teen birth rate has dropped to 9.5 percent. Vermilion County Health Department Administrator Doug Toole says it is the lowest rate for teen births since the state started collecting data….
According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, out of 1,021 births recorded in Vermilion County in 2016, only 97 were born to teen mothers.
Toole notes it is a big drop from some earlier years for teen births…
So why are teen births down now?
Every five years, local health departments in Illinois conduct Community Health Needs Assessments to identify which concerns will be priorities over the next five years. Vermilion County’s plans have included teen pregnancy as a priority for years.
