Although the voting is over the winners of the Democratic nomination for Vermilion County Board in District 9 are yet to be determined. Sandra Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission, says it was discovered late Tuesday afternoon that some wrong ballots had been given to twenty voters in that district. ‘’It was human error – a mistake by one of our judges,’’ said Delhaye. But she added she accepts responsibility, and is working to get the matter resolved.
Combined vote totals for the city and county precincts which make up County Board District 9 show Bruce Stark got 106 votes, Diana Brenneman got 90, and Frank Hoskins received 80 votes. But since there are 20 votes in question the final outcome of the race is undetermined. There were suppose to be two candidates nominated Tuesday to advance to the fall General Election from that district.
Delhaye says she has called the Illinois State Board of Elections and notified the Vermilion County State’s Attorney and Danville Board of Election Commission members about the problem. She says it was one of the candidates – Bruce Stark – who reported it when he went to vote and was given a ballot which did not have his name on it.
