It may still be cool now, but Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer is looking ahead to summer. And the Mayor tells VermilionCountyFirst.com news that he intends to bring back some special patrols.
‘’We certainly want to replicate much of what we did last summer. That would include the summertime park patrols that we do with our Police Division,’’ said the Mayor. ‘’It would also include the additional park patrolling that we do with our Fire Division. So, both of those will be done again this summer.’’
‘’We’re going to be bringing before the Public Services Committee next month changes to the curfew ordinance. Since we have now over the course of the last two summers made temporary adjustments I think we all agree now is the time to make those permanent,’’ added Mayor Eisenhauer during an interview with VermilionCountyFirst.com News.
And the Mayor explained what permanent changes are being proposed with the curfew ordinance.
‘’Last year what we did in the curfew was we had changed the curfew hours to one hour earlier on both weekdays and weekends. And those hours are different based on 16 and under – and 17 and 18. So, we’re going to continue to look at those types of changes – make sure that the hours that we allow people to be out are appropriate, and reflect on what we have done over the course of the last two summers, and whether or not that has had a positive impact. And if so, then replicate those in the permanent changes in the ordinance,’’ said the Mayor.
During last summer’s extra patrols police and firefighters had a chance to stop and talk to young people and others – especially around the city’s parks. And on occasion they even stopped to shoot some basketball with youngsters.
