Gasoline prices have jumped in recent days across both Illinois and Indiana. Drivers are paying considerably more than they did both last month and last year at this time.
Illinois drivers are paying on average $2.68 a gallon for unleaded regular gasoline, up 14-cents a gallon from a month ago. Last year at this time Illinois motorists were paying on average $2.39 for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline.
Gas prices in the Danville/Vermilion County area have jumped about 20-cents a gallon over the past two weeks. In Champaign County the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline during March was $2.47 — up 2-cents a gallon from February and 22-cents from one year ago.
‘’Right now we are starting to see refineries purge winter-blend gasoline to make room for the switch to summer-blend,’’ says Beth Mosher. She is the Director of Public Affairs for AAA – The Auto Club Group. ‘’This rise in price will continue throughout the spring and into the summer driving season,’’ added Mosher.
