Danville Board of Election Commission Executive Director Sandra Delhaye says it has been sort of lonely lately at her office since the recent election. It is because her office will be the last to move from the building which has been known as the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex. The building is expected to be empty by the end of next week.
The Danville Election Commission is the final office will join other county offices which have already moved to the new Vermilion County Administration Building at 201 North Vermilion.
[The tall building is Bresee Tower and the Vermilion County Courthouse Annex is on the right. Bresee Tower has been vacant for years, but by the end of next week the Courthouse Annex is also expected to be empty.]
Delhaye says she and her staff are excited about the move. Her office will be relocating to the basement of the Vermilion County Administration Building, where Delhaye notes they will have windows. Although it will be in the basement it will be accessible to voters with disabilities.
As she prepared to move out of her old office, Delhaye noted the history of that building. She says her office has been located in the area where the pet department was located back in the days when the building was a Woolworth’s store.
There is still one more county office that will be moving into the Vermilion County Administration Building. It is the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency which is expected to move later this spring.
The Vermilion County Board Office, along with the County Clerk, County Treasurer, Vermilion County Supervisor of Assessments, Recorder, Board of Review and Auditor’s Office all moved to the former federal court building in Danville earlier.
