There are 300 fewer students enrolled in Danville District 118 Schools than one year ago, according to a report going to the school board this week. The report says the grand total of all students as of April 1st (this year) was 5,486 — compared to 5,794 on April 1st, 2017.
Enrollments at Danville High School and North Ridge Middle School have held relatively steady. But total enrollment in Danville’s elementary schools has dropped by more than 350 students since April 1st of last year.
Edison Elementary School (shown here) saw its enrollment over the year fall from 283 to 215 students. The enrollment at Garfield Elementary School has dropped from 301 to 211. At Mark Denman Elementary School there were 906 students attending school on April 1st two years ago. This year the Mark Denman enrollment is 676.
There were 311 students attending Liberty Elementary School in Danville on April 1st of 2016. This year there are 100 fewer students at that school on Danville’s north side.
Although enrollment has dropped at several schools, it is up at South West Elementary School in Tilton. On April 1st of last year there were 413 students attending that school. On April 1st of this year that number had jumped to 573.
The enrollment report is just one of the items on the agenda when the District 118 School Board meets on Wednesday. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Jackson School Board room at 516 North Jackson Street.
