The Chairman of the Vermilion County Board hopes being in the national spotlight will help resolve the problem of toxic coal ash sitting near the Scenic Middle Fork River. On Tuesday the American Rivers group listed the Middle Fork as one of the top 10 endangered rivers in the nation in its annual report.
Mike Marron says there is little that the Vermilion County Board can do to try to get Dynegy to clean-up the coal ash….
And Marron adds the County Board wants to protect the National Scenic Middle Fork….
Marron also noted it is vital that something be done to protect the river…
Vermilion County Board Chairman Mike Marron. The American Rivers report notes coal ash contaminants have already been seeping into the Middle Fork. Environmental groups – including Prairie Rivers Network – have urged the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to require Dynegy to clean up the site.
