Danville City Council members have approved a contract for asbestos removal from the former Gulick Illiana Medical Equipment building along North Vermilion Street. Once the asbestos is removed the City will be tearing down the building that it purchased earlier to make way for development.
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer told City Council members last evening (Tuesday) that the City is continuing to work with a developer for the site. He says the tentative plans call for two new buildings to go up on the site. The Mayor added it is the same individuals who expressed an interest when the city originally made plans to purchase the Gulick property. He says the vacant Speed Lube building on the northwest corner of Vermilion and Fairchild will be demolished at the developer’s discretion. It will not be demolished by City crews.
No announcement has been made about what is being proposed for the corner.
Danville City Council members also approved combining the Danville Planning and Zoning Commission with the Zoning Board of Appeals.
