Members of the Danville Symphony Orchestra gave 2,000 elementary level students a taste of their music Tuesday with their annual Children’s Concert. The students from across the Danville Area Community College District not only got to hear the Symphony, but also got some words of encouragement from retired astronaut Joe Tanner.
‘’If you want to be an astronaut, you can do it,’’ said Tanner. ‘’I did it from this building and so can you,’’ he added. Tanner urged the students to ‘’set your goals high and don’t give up.’’

Tanner will serve as narrator for ‘An Evening of Adventure’ when the Symphony performs at the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium in a Saturday evening concert. It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium.
