Danville native Joe Tanner, a retired astronaut, says if NASA would call him he would gladly go back into space for a fifth time.
Tanner gave two programs at the Vermilion County War Museum Wednesday evening describing what it was like to be an astronaut aboard the space shuttle and ‘walk’ in space. He noted that you actually grow in space….
[Members of the crowd listen to Tanner’s talk during one of his presentations at the War Museum.]
Tanner also noted that weight played a factor on the flights….
Tanner says eventually he expects there will be manned flights to Mars, but he adds….
Tanner’s two presentations at the War Museum were free, but many people donated to help with the museum’s current fund drive. Tanner is a 1968 graduate of Danville High School and is also a University of Illinois graduate.
