Funeral services have been announced for the Terre Haute Police Officer who died after being shot Friday evening. Forty-five year old Officer Rob Pitts was a sixteen year veteran of the Terre Haute Police Department. He had earlier served six years as a Sullivan, Indiana police officer.
Services for Pitts are scheduled for Wednesday (May 9, 2018) at 11:00 a.m. in the Hulman Center at Indiana State University in Terre Haute. Officer Pitts was fatally wounded when he and three other officers went to the Garden Quarter Apartments in Terre Haute searching for a suspect in an earlier homicide. Officer Pitts was struck and rushed to a Terre Haute hospital but died from his wound.
Following a standoff with police, the suspect was also ultimately shot and died from his injuries as well. Indiana State Police are investigating the incident.
A vigil honoring Officer Pitts was held outside the Vigo County Courthouse over the weekend. Following the funeral on Wednesday the procession will end at the Center Ridge Cemetery in Sullivan.
