Supporters of changing Danville’s form of government to a City Manager/Council one say they want voters to have good information in order to make a choice. Doug Ahrens is one of the organizers of Moving Danville Forward….
Jim Mulvaney is another leader of the group in favor of changing Danville’s government. And Mulvaney explained why he thinks the City Manager form is best….
Ahrens and Mulvaney discussed the government change proposal on WDAN Radio’s Newsmakers program. Opponents of the change held an organizational meeting over the weekend and are also being invited to speak on the program later this month.
Ahrens said Moving Danville Forward will be holding a series of public meetings and plans to invite mayors and managers from other communities who have gone through the change to be guest speakers.
For now, though, he says the pro group is concentrating on gathering names on petitions. They need 550 to 560 names in order to petition the court to ask that the question be placed on the fall ballot. The question would be: “Shall the City of Danville, Illinois adopt the Managerial Form of Government and continue to elect aldermen from wards?’’ If approved by voters, the change to the City Manager/Council form of government would occur in April of next year.
