Officers from across the area gathered at Sunset – in the location they have generously set aside to honor fallen officers- for the Annual Police Memorial Service…. in his opening prayer, following the presentation of colors, Rev Frank McCullough encouraged officers to continue to serve and protect even in difficult times as these ….and encouraged the public to respect the people who serve us and put their lives on the line for our safety every day.
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer then read the names and told the stories of the Everyday Heroes who have fallen wearing the uniform in service here in Vermilion County…….Officer August Lind, fallen April 10, 1908……Danville Police Officer David Farnsworth, fallen in line of duty January 27, 1976…. and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputy Myron Deckard, fallen June 6, 2001….the Danville Police Honor Guard provided a rifle salute, and Taps was played by the Sheriffs Department before colors were retired.
