Citizens attending a forum on the proposal to change Danville to a council – city manager form of government were told last night (Wednesday) that it will make Danville a better community over the next 20, 30, or 50 years. The comment came from Steve Carter, a retired Champaign City Manager, at a forum at the David S. Palmer Arena.
Carter outlined what Danville might need to pay to get a good city manager….
Carter and Dr. Charles Hantz, a Political Science Professor at Danville Area Community College, were the guest speakers at the forum hosted by the group Moving Danville Forward.
Hantz wrote a paper after studying the city manager form of government and discussed its findings…
If the question is placed on this fall’s ballot and is approved by voters, Danville would change to the City Council – City Manager form of government next spring. There would still be 14 aldermen – 2 from each ward. And Danville would still have a mayor, but the mayor would perform mostly a ceremonial role while such things as working on a city budget would be up to the city manager.
A group opposed to the change is holding a public forum starting at 6 o’clock Thursday evening (May 31st) at the Bremer Conference Center at Danville Area Community College.
