New unemployment figures are out and they show jobless rates are down in East Central Illinois from where they stood a year ago.
In Vermilion County the May 2018 unemployment rate of 5.1 percent is down from 5.7 a year ago. Danville’s unemployment rate of 5.7 percent last month is down 1.1 percent from May of 2017.
The report shows non-farm employment in Vermilion County dropped by 400 over the year. And the county also recorded job losses of 100 positions in each of the categories of Information, Financial Activities, and Professional and Business Services, and 200 jobs were lost in the Government category.
The only category in Vermilion County which recorded a gain was Leisure and Hospitality – where 100 jobs were added during the past year.
In the Champaign-Urbana-Rantoul area last month’s unemployment rate of 3.6 percent was down slightly from the 3.8 percent rate in May of 2017.
In Edgar County, last month’s jobless rate of 3.4 percent was down from 4.1 percent a year ago. And in Iroquois County the May 2018 unemployment rate of 3.2 percent is down from 3.5 in May of last year.
