You may have heard the old saying about corn being ‘’knee-high by the 4th of July.’’ Well, this year it is over the head of most people in the Vermilion County area. And Morris Chestnut, who farms in the Ridge Farm area, and Steve Lane, who farms northwest of Danville, both say the crops are looking good – so far.
Chestnut notes there has been no shortage of rain….
Lane says the rain has not been so plentiful lately in his area northwest of Danville…

The two men talked with Tom Fricke from the Vermilion County Farm Bureau, and their comments were aired on WDAN Radio’s ‘On the Farm’ program.
Lane said crops on his farm are progressing nicely….
Chestnut is also pleased with the outlook for his crops…
The men add that although we might not like the heat and humidity – the corn loves it. The humidity helps with the pollination process.
